LIVESTRONG 5K

| Health & Fitness | Wednesday September 21 2011

It’s not too late to fulfill that New Year’s Resolution. You know the one. How you promised yourself this was the year that you were going to start running, and race in your first 5K. Well what better way to cross something off your list, while at the same time raising money for a great cause? The Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin 5K Run/Walk on October 15 is to help raise money for the organization, and offers a great chance to get in one last healthy activity before the holidays start and you don’t think about exercise until March.

Not Austin, obviously, but how cool would it be to run here!?!

Plus, a 5K is a great event for anyone from experienced marathoners to casual weekend joggers (*note to new runners, don’t call a seasoned runner a “jogger”… trust me). And with enough time between then and now, there is plenty of time to get in shape and ready for the event. That’s what makes Run/Walk events that much better, cause if you get tired of doing one thing, just switch over to the other! Plus, with charity races like these, it’s not about how fast you run. It’s just about being a part of the greater good (although if you are a serious runner, it’s a great chance to amp up your 5K PR). With a route through downtown Austin, what better way to see the city from a new perspective, than by running through it.  Information on where to sign up and cost can be found here, and if you need further inspiration to head out the door and start training, I’ve got you covered too.

After starting everything as an intern in the promotions department, he moved on to become an On Air DJ, and host of his own specialty show, Sunday Morning Service. After the success of that show, Shugg moved on to become a part of the On Air Streaming crew, and is now a contributing Music Columnist to the site. Shugg also writes under his pseudonym, the Radio Runner, where he writes about new music and his other passion, marathon running.
