Finch’s Fabulous Collection

| Art,Home & Living,Shopping | Wednesday June 16 2010

I recently became a semi-grown up, and purchased my first house.  In my new found adulthood, I’ve become more and more focused on making my house a home. Bored with the big box stores, I am constantly seeking out unique home stores that will help me put a personal touch on my humble abode. Nestled in the heart of Austin’s 2nd Street District was the solution to my decorative dilemma — Finch. Finch offers a fabulous collection of independent designers, that you’re unlikely to find anywhere else in town!

After graduating from the University of Texas, shop owner Kristi Pruett relocated to California, then New York City, only to return to Austin a few years later. Upon her arrival back to the Capitol City, she noticed the need for a store such as Finch. Apparently I’m not the only one looking for a little something more when it comes to home decor!

When I walked in, I couldn’t help but notice the simple, clean, yet organic feel of everything in the store. The inset wall displays gracefully showcase everything from place settings to throw pillows. I slowly wandered around the shop examining every nook  – all while making a mental wish list, of course. In addition to home decor, Finch offers a great collection of letter pressed greeting cards for every occasion. So when you’re shopping for the perfect housewarming gift for your co-worker/best friend/sister-in-law – or, let’s face it – yourself, Finch is sure to have what you’re looking for.

Speaking of gifts, Finch even offers wedding registry for that bride-to-be that likes to think outside the box. With designers like Heath and Alex Marshall, there are plenty of items to make your new life together that much sweeter. A shop favorite, Rae Dunn, is a collection of precious little ceramic dishes and goods that are perfect to give (or get!). Have wedding guests from out of town? That’s not a problem. Finch has an e-commerce store that makes wedding registry and gifting easier than ever. Yes, Bed Bath & Beyond might have the Magic Bullet blender, but do they have this? No, I didn’t think so.

So the next time you’re on the hunt for the perfect little something for your home, take a stroll down 2nd Street to Finch. You’re sure to find something to feather your nest.
