AFW Gets Pimped Out Runways

Harley-Davidson Inspiration Board

Caplan Miller Events' inspiration board for The Austin Fashion Week Kickoff Presented by Lincoln at Cowboy Harley-Davidson

Austin Fashion Week may be known for its haute style and glitzy events. But, this year’s Austin Fashion Week is being elevated, from design to execution, with the help of special, custom runways courtesy of Caplan Miller Events and Strong Events. The two teams are working in tandem to present Austin Fashion Week participants with visually stunning runways that will contribute to the chic look and feel of the week.

All of the Fashion Week events will showcase these amazing custom runways, including Speed & Glory: The Austin Fashion Week Kickoff Presented by Lincoln at Cowboy Harley-Davidson, the Driskill Hotel Runway Presentations, as well as the Austin Fashion Awards at ACL Live. In order to present all of the events on these runways, Courtney Caplan and the Caplan Miller team took the mood each show was trying to encapsulate and designed spectacular showpieces to help convey the perfect tone.

“We used the venue as inspiration for each runway,” Caplan explains. “Each space has something unique that inspired the look and materials used.  Our runway at Harley-Davidson includes industrial details with classic Harley touches that you associate with a biker. The Driskill is the epitome of elegance and style. It’s clean and doesn’t try too hard because it is classically beautiful, as is our runway.  And ACL is vibrant and glamorous with state-of-the-art-technology. Just wait until you see this runway and lighting!”

Once Caplan and her crew dreamt up the perfect concept—with the help of inspiration boards, such as the one seen here for the Harley-Davidson runway—they passed their designs over the team at Strong Events, who make their dream a reality.

“Once we understand their design concept, it is our job to provide immaculate execution,” JoAnna Eisler, the production manager of Strong Events, says. “Strong’s commitment and attention to detail along with superior craftsmanship is what sets us apart.  Each of the three runways created for this year’s Fashion Week are unique and will be custom built at the venues.”

While the two incredible events companies aren’t giving away too many of their secrets for the shows—you’ll just have to wait to see what they’ve cooked up—they are very excited to be working with Austin Fashion Week for the first time.

“Dennis Randolph, owner of Strong Events, wanted to get involved with Austin Fashion Week since its inception, and looks forward to the challenge of reaching the vision that was presented to us,” Eisler says. “We are thrilled to be working on Austin Fashion Week this year and have been working hard to bring the event to a new level!” Caplan adds.

When pressed for any teasers on what Austin’s fashionistas can expect, the two teams coyly offered up these snippets:

“At this year’s runway shows, attendees can expect to see runways that elevate the level of sophistication for the week-long event,” Eisler alludes. “This is Austin, where fashion can be both fun and serious at the same time,” Caplan hints. “We hope this is conveyed throughout the week—fashion and lots of fun!”
