Austin Music Vol 10-Release at The Parish

| General,Music | Tuesday February 22 2011

The Austin Music Office had been waxing nostalgic for the 10th volume of their Austin Music compilation, being released this month. For the first time ever, they will make the album of local music selections, used to promote the city’s live music scene, available on vinyl in a limited run. They will also include additional bonus material to help visitors navigate the live music scene, such as a deluxe insider’s guide to Austin, with maps, club listings, and a calendar of major events.

The annual eclectic compilation features the rising stars of the Austin music scene. Artists that have appeared on past albums include the Black and White Years, Del Castillo, Okkervil River, Spoon, and Brownout, featuring members of the Grammy Award-winning Grupo Fantasma. This year’s artist listing includes many of the “Best” bands in Austin this past year, such as The Bright Light Social Hour (Best Indie Band), Tee-Double and James Speer (Best Hip-Hop Artist), and the Marshall Ford Swing Band (Best Jazz).

To celebrate the release of the latest CD, the Austin Convention and Visitor’s Bureau will be hosting a party at the Parish on Feb. 23 from 7-10 p.m. The following ten bands from the compilation will perform short sets: Gina Chavez, Mother Falcon, TV Torso, Betty Soo, The Marshall Ford Swing Band, Danny Malone, The Trishas, Ocote Soul Sounds, T-Double and the Bright Light Social Hour. Admission is $10, which includes a copy of the 14-song CD.
