One Reason Why: Benefit for Ten Thousand Villages | Thursday, October 21 | Black Lagoon Gallery | 6:30 – 9:30 pm

Located on South Congress, Ten Thousand Villages is a go-to destination for unique, one-of-a-kind collectibles, gifts, and artisan-crafted home decor, all of which can be purchased with a good conscience. The store is a volunteer-run, fair trade retailer with products from across the globe from more than 130 artisans in some 38 countries. As an organization, Ten Thousand Villages has spent over 60 years in long-term trading relationships with their suppliers, ensuring each artist receives a fair price for their handcrafted items as an alternative approach to international trade.

The Austin location opened in 2004, and carries items reflecting rich cultural traditions while promoting the use of sustainable and recycled resources. A visit to the store is always an unparalleled experience with inventory changing often, and giving the shopper the convenience of finding rare items in an easy visit to SoCo. As a company with volunteer workers, this retailer shows how fashion can also be a way to give back, to “think global” while shopping local, and to support fair labor practices.

Ten Thousand Villages cannot operate without your help. The Austin branch will be throwing an evening of art, food, and socializing to share with lovers of fashion the reasons behind supporting this very much needed organization. Join Ten Thousand Villages on Thursday, October 21st for One Reason Why: An Evening of Art at the Black Lagoon Gallery, which will feature one-of-a-kind, artisan-crafted pieces, and gallery items will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Volunteers will be available to answer questions and talk about the reasons why they support the fair trade movement. This collection will only be displayed the night of the event, so come mingle, nosh, sip, admire and learn about fair trade.

Individual tickets are now on sale! Click here to purchase a ticket. or come by the store at 1317 South Congress.
