Hear some great music at Spider House for 15 bucks and benefit one of Austin’s own up-and-coming nonprofit organizations? Sold.
The DiscoverHope Fund is hosting their third annual Band Together for Hope fundraiser concert this Saturday, October 2nd at Spider House bar near the UT campus. Tickets are $15 and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the inspiring work of DiscoverHope.
Founded in 2007, DiscoverHope seeks to provide women in developing nations the access to microloans (usually somewhere around $200) along with the entrepreneurial training they need to create their own sustainable prosperity. Since its establishment, DiscoverHope has funded 275 such loans with an incredibly impressive 100% payback rate. The loans encourage women to initiate and grow small businesses, while the training works in tandem to teach sustainable finance practices. The women aided by this program are then able to lift their families, and their communities, out of the cycle of poverty by implementing and passing on their knowledge.
DiscoverHope has enjoyed great success in their pilot community of Cajamarca, Peru and are looking to expand to a second Latin American site in the coming year.
A variety of annual events, like this Saturday’s, provide DiscoverHope with funds for these microloans, but also a chance to connect with the community. Band Together for Hope is sponsored by an impressive roster of local businesses and features hometown Austin bands The Mother Truckers and Dertybird along with some special guests. It’s going to be a great night of music supporting a truly worthy cause!
Spider House is located at 2908 Fruth Street. Doors open at 8pm and tickets are $15. For more information on DiscoverHope please visit their website.
