Tour of Private Homes Designed by Local Architects is One of Many Design-Focused Events Happening in October
Throughout the month of October, AIA Austin is highlighting the value of good design by partnering with other organizations throughout Austin. This month-long focus on design will kick off with an esteemed Austin tradition: the AIA Austin Homes Tour. The 25th annual AIA Austin Homes Tour is a self-guided tour showcasing private homes designed by local architects. The tour encompasses fifteen newly constructed and renovated projects featuring traditional and contemporary designs.
Taking place October 1st and 2nd from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Homes Tour provides the general public with an opportunity to view newly renovated or completed homes to find an architect they’d like to work with, get ideas for products or techniques for their own homes, or enjoy the work of Austin’s finest architects. This year’s featured architects are:
Alterstudio Architects, LLP
A Parallel Architecture
Barley & Pfeiffer Architects
Brian Dillard Architecture
Cornerstone Group Architects
Dick Clark Architecture
KRDB
McKinney York Architects
Mell Lawrence Architects
Murray Legge, AIA – LZT Architects
Pollen Architecture and Design
Paul Lamb Architects
Rauser Design
Rick & Cindy Black Architects
Stuart Sampley Architect
Keeping in line with the city’s movement to make Austin bike-friendly, AIA Austin has created a special Bike Program for this year’s tour. Each house will have bike racks and water stations so families can easily enjoy the tour on two wheels. A separate Tour Map including bike routes will be available. Austin City Council member Chris Riley will kick off the Homes Tour at the Austin Center for Architecture with a few words about biking in Austin, and will lead a group of bikers to the first stop on the tour.
Tickets to the AIA Homes Tour go on sale September 1, 2011 and may be purchased at Zinger Hardware (Central Market location), Five Elements Furniture, or directly from AIA Austin. Additional information about the Homes Tour is available at http://www.aiaaustin.org/
The Homes Tour serves as the kickoff for the inaugural Austin x Design, a month-long series of events promoting a variety of organizations and events that celebrate design in both the built and natural environments.
